DIGITAL INTERPRETATION
For The Columbus Crossing Borders Project at Dublin Arts Council, I implemented several digital interactives to encourage visitors to deeper engage with exhibition themes.
iPad Interactive: Create, Connect, Contemplate
The works of art in Crossing Borders link with adjacent paintings, using patterns, materials, and figures from one canvas to the next. I invited visitors to create their own “border crossings” by choosing an artwork from the exhibition and layering smaller images from artworks on top of it, forming a new composition and accompanying story. After completing their new composite artwork, they reflected on their experience and built empathy by considering the challenges and rewards, as they “crossed borders” into unfamiliar territory (in this case, an artwork created by someone else), as refugees do.
Video Feedback Booth
Participants could record their own personal responses to and stories about the exhibition and the refugee experience.
